Lee Terry ends 2013 with $818K in bank for re-election bid

U.S. Rep. Lee Terry, who is running for re-election, is stockpiling cash. The Republican from Omaha ended the year with $818,000 in the bank, according to his latest campaign finance report.
In comparison, Terry had $435,000 in the bank at the same point in his 2012 race.
Terry is seeking his ninth term in office. So far, he has not drawn a Democratic opponent. Omaha City Councilman Pete Festersen withdrew from the race earlier this year, citing family obligations, and Democrats have been unable to find a replacement.
However, Terry does face a primary challenger. Republican businessman Dan Frei is running against Terry in the May 13 primary.
Terry released his latest quarterly report Tuesday — nearly two weeks ahead of the Jan. 31 deadline.
Frei said Tuesday that his campaign was still compiling his report.
The report is for the final three months of last year. Terry reported that he raised $341,000 during that period. Overall, he has raised $1.2 million for this election cycle.
In addition to his fundraising report, Terry also recently hired a new campaign manager. Kevin Conroy has extensive political and legislative experience, most recently as a regional political director for Republican Bill Bolling’s failed gubernatorial bid in Virginia. He also once worked for former U.S. Rep. David Dreier, a California Republican who served as chairman of the House Rules Committee.
