Nebraska's District 2 congressman says he's ready to get moving on another term after a come-from-behind win Tuesday.
Republican Lee Terry won the race with 53 percent of the vote to challenger Jim Esch's 47 percent.
This will be Terry's fifth term in office and he says he already has a game plan for the next two years.
He
says the plan is to, "focus on energy independence and make sure that
we are independent by the year 2015. That's going to be a lot of heavy
lifting, but I think we need to do that."
Terry
says he favors building more oil refineries as a way to increase fuel
supplies and prevent the disruption and skyrocketing prices that
followed last year's Gulf hurricanes.
The
incumbent had trailed earlier in the night, which was a new experience
for him. Terry said being behind was painful, but he predicted he would
pull ahead as more votes were counted.
Esch
said he thought his campaign had the momentum going into Election Day
as he continued to criticize Terry's stance on the war in Iraq.
Terry,
44, said that he does not support immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops
because the job is "not yet done," and because leaving now would hurt
U.S. credibility in foreign policy.
But
Esch, a 30-year-old Omaha lawyer, said the war in Iraq and the
subsequent occupation has been mismanaged and that a diplomatic
solution is needed.
